Zombie Cocktail Recipe
The Zombie Cocktail is a dangerously delicious fruity, rum-filled, boozy concoction from the original Tiki cocktail scene.
The Zombie is a cocktail made with a variety of fruit juice, liqueurs, brandy, and various rums.
The Original Tiki Bar Cocktail
The early days of the Tiki Cocktail scene were lead by Donn Beach of Hollywood’s Don The Beachcomber Restaurant and Vic Bergeron of Trader Vics. The Tiki cocktail scene was highly competitive and the ingredients and recipes for these tropical-inspired concoctions were well-guarded secrets.
According to Wikipedia, the original recipe the for Zombie cocktail included three different kinds of rum, lime juice, falernum, Angostura bitters, Pernod, grenadine, and “Don’s Mix”, a combination of cinnamon syrup and grapefruit juice. This recipe was published along with Donn Beach’s other cocktail recipes by Jeff Berry, in 2007 in the book Sippin’ Safari. Check out his Tiki Bar Blog – love it!
My recipe is modified from the original, but I do use what’s referred to as “Donn’s Mix”. I highly recommend making “Donn’s Mix”. It’s awesome in a number of cocktails.
