I love strawberry lemonade, but when I'm looking for something different I love to add basil for a little more sophisticated flavor. This makes a great mocktail for your designated drivers and a great mixer for vodka.
Juice the lemons, you will want about 1 cup of lemon juice. Strain the juice if you prefer pulp-free lemonade.
Prepare simple syrup using 1 cup water and 1 cup sugar. Combine sugar and water in a saucepan. Bring the water and sugar to a boil, stirring, until sugar is dissolved. ** If you need to make this quickly or just don't want to wait for the syrup to cool combine the water and sugar in a container with a lid and shake vigorously until sugar has dissolved.
Combine lemon juice and simple syrup and allow the lemon and sugar combination to cool.
**Adjust the proportions of lemon juice to simple syrup to change the sweetness or tartness of the lemonade to suit your preference.
Cut strawberries into quarters and place in a food processor with basil and 1/4 cup lemon simple syrup and puree until smooth.
Add 4 cups of cold water to the pitcher, mix well
Taste lemonade and add more water until you reach the desired sweet-tart balance.
Place strawberry basil puree in a large pitcher.
Add 4 cups of cold water and the remaining lemon simple syrup. Add more cold water as desired.
