Tujague’s Grasshopper Martini Cocktail Recipe

Tujague’s Grasshopper Martini Cocktail is like drinking a York peppermint patty. The perfect dessert or after dinner drink.  What’s not to love, boozy chocolate and mint.  Love it.

I remember this drink from childhood.  This was a standard offering after dinner at our home.

Around the holidays I was trying to come up with a signature after dinner drink for a dinner party and since my husband loves mint chocolate chip ice cream and I’ve cut out ice cream after dinner. I made this Grasshopper Martini as a tribute to its 100-year birthday and nostalgia for my New Orleans days.

History of the Grasshopper

Tujague’s is the second oldest restaurant in New Orleans and my favorite of the classic old New Orleans bars and restaurants.

According to the Tujague’s website, the Grasshopper celebrated its 100-year anniversary November of 2018.

Shortly after the turn of the century, the Guichet family purchased Tujague’s from founders Guillaume and Marie Tujague. Philibert Guichet invented the drink that would become known as the Grasshopper, for a 1918 cocktail competition in New York City. Guichet’s cocktail secured a second-place finish and became so popular back home in New Orleans, that it’s held a permanent spot on the Tujague’s cocktail menu ever since.
