Steamed Alaskan King Crab with 3 Dipping Sauces

Steamed Alaskan King Crab is a super easy, stress-free entree to serve for any special occasion. Whip up one or all of these 3 Dipping Sauces to serve alongside or just serve with lemon and drawn butter.

Make this a meal by serving with steamed vegetables and a simple side salad.

Elegant and simple, steamed Alaskan King Crab is perfect for any special occasion meal.

Make sure you buy Alaskan King Crab - the stuff that comes from Russia is typically freezer burned and not nearly as sweet.  I lived in Alaska for a number of years, so I'm a little biased but the Alaskan boats handle the crab in a way to fetch the highest prices at the processor.

For an entree serve 1 1/2 lbs per person, as an appetizer, serve about a 1/2 pound per person.



  • 6 lbs. Alaska King Crab Legs or substitute Snow or Dungeness

Spicy cocktail sauce:

  • 1/4 cup bottled chili sauce
  • 1/4 cup ketchup
  • 1 to 2 teaspoon prepared horseradish
  • 1/2 medium lemon

Garlic Butter Sauce:

  • ½ cup unsalted melted butter
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • ¾ teaspoon minced garlic
  • ½ teaspoon dried chopped rosemary
  • 1 dash white pepper

Honey Ginger Raspberry Mustard Sauce:

  • 2 t honey
  • 2 t raspberry preserves seedless
  • 1 T dijon mustard
  • 1 t lemon juice
  • ½ t prepared or fresh ginger
  • ¼ t each dry mustard and grated lemon peel
  • a dash or 2 of white pepper



  1. Alaskan King Crab Legs (or substitute Snow or Dungeness) thawed either in the refrigerator or in cold water.
  2. Fill large dutch oven with about a ½-inch of water, add crab legs and bring to boil; reduce heat, cover and simmer 4 minutes. Drain, and keep warm.
  3. Serve with dipping sauce.
  4. While crab is steaming, prepare one of the following sauces by blending ingredients in a bowl:

Spicy Cocktail Sauce:

  1. Combine all ingredients in a small bowl
  2. Serve at room temperature or chilled.

Garlic Butter Sauce:

  1. Melt butter
  2. Add all ingredients to melted butter in a small bowl.
  3. Serve warm.

Honey Ginger Raspberry Mustard Sauce:

  1. Mix honey, raspberry preserves, and Dijon mustard together. You may want to microwave for a few seconds to make this easier to combine.
  2. Add remaining ingredients and mix well.
  3. Serve cold or room temperature.

Recipe Notes

Dips can also be prepared up to 2 days in advance, re-heating butter sauce.
