Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups fresh squeezed lemon juice Approx. 6 lemons
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 4 to 6 cups cold water

Instructions

  1. Prepare simple syrup using 1 cup water and 1 cup sugar.
  2. Combine sugar and water in a saucepan. Bring the water and sugar to a boil, stirring, until sugar is dissolved. Allow simple syrup to cool, and then refrigerate.
  3. **If you don't have time to cool the simple syrup just combine sugar and water in a clean jar with a lid and shake until the sugar is dissolved.
  4. Juice the lemons (you want about 1 1/2 cups of lemon juice). You can strain the juice if you would like pulp-free lemonade. Combine lemon juice and simple syrup then dilute with cold water until the desired flavor is reached, generally at about 4 to 6 cups cold water.

Recipe Notes

You can adjust the proportions of lemon juice to simple syrup to change the sweetness or tartness of the lemonade depending on what you like.

If you really want to jazz up your lemonade for your picnic, crush fresh strawberries in the lemonade for a delicious strawberry-lemonade swirl.  Or use sparkling water in place of regular tap water.

Vampiro Tequila Cocktail with Jalisco Sangrita

Vampiro Tequila Cocktail with Jalisco Sangrita. This spicy tequila cocktail mixed with a traditional Jalisco Sangrita. Sangrita’s are my new cocktail obsession. Sangrita or “little blood” has traditionally been served as a chaser for excellent quality tequila. It would have been a mixture of fruit juices and finely ground chili pepper. Many sangrita recipes call for tomato juice, but that would not have been part of the traditional recipe, the original recipe would have been made from leftover juice from fresh fruit salads and changed based on the fruits used.

Today’s cocktail culture is creating very intriguing sangritas as an ingredient in some pretty amazing tequila cocktails. This recipe calls for a combination of grapefruit, orange, and lime with a touch of spicy jalapeno pepper.
