Mermaid Smoothie Breakfast Bowl Recipe

Calling all Mermaids. These creamy dreamy mermaid smoothie bowls are as delicious as they are beautiful.

Coconut yogurt makes this bowl super creamy, a healthy little secret makes it blue. Yum!

This bowl also smells heavenly.  The smell of summer.  Which for me always brings back the feeling of being fit and happy.

This is the perfect summer breakfast.  Fresh and light.

Packed with protein and lots of healthy goodies you’ll have plenty of energy for all those fun summer activities.

+ Making these at home will save you a boatload of money so you can buy that new bikini.

The secret to dreamy turquoise color is spirulina powder.  And it’s good for more than just making this smoothie blue.  Spirulina is packed with all sorts of healthy nutrients.  keep reading to learn more.

Making these bowls always intimidated me. They are so beautiful, almost too beautiful to eat.  But the are super easy and even a novice can make Instagram ready bowls in no time.

Totally easy-breezy, you can whip this breakfast up in about 10 minutes.

Grab your bowl and let’s make a creamy, dreamy mermaid smoothie breakfast bowl.

Benefits of Spirulina

Spirulina is very high in Nutrients

This tiny alga is packed with nutrients. A single tablespoon of dried spirulina powder contains

  • Protein: 4 grams
  • Vitamin B1 (thiamine): 11% of the RDA
  • Vitamin B2 (riboflavin): 15% of the RDA
  • Vitamin B3 (niacin): 4% of the RDA
  • Copper: 21% of the RDA
  • Iron: 11% of the RDA
  • It also contains magnesium, potassium, and manganese and small amounts of almost every other nutrient that you need.

In addition, the same amount holds only 20 calories and 1.7 grams of digestible carbs.

It’s a powerful antioxidant & is reported to have anti-inflammatory benefits.

The active component is called phycocyanin. This antioxidant substance also gives spirulina its unique blue-green color.

Phycocyanin can fight free radicals and may inhibit the production of inflammatory signaling molecules.

Heart Healthy – it is said to lower “bad” LDL and triglycerides and keeps bad cholesterol from oxidizing.  + It may reduce high blood pressure
Improves seasonal nasal allergy symptoms
Potentially helps to ward-off cancer
May help to control blood sugar levels

Sounds good to me.  But remember, I’m not a doctor and can’t make any claims but it seems to help me feel better in general.  And I notice a difference (not a good one) when I don’t use spirulina.

Talking to your doctor about any new supplement is always a good idea.
