Benefits of Spirulina
Spirulina is very high in Nutrients
This tiny alga is packed with nutrients. A single tablespoon of dried spirulina powder contains
- Protein: 4 grams
- Vitamin B1 (thiamine): 11% of the RDA
- Vitamin B2 (riboflavin): 15% of the RDA
- Vitamin B3 (niacin): 4% of the RDA
- Copper: 21% of the RDA
- Iron: 11% of the RDA
- It also contains magnesium, potassium, and manganese and small amounts of almost every other nutrient that you need.
In addition, the same amount holds only 20 calories and 1.7 grams of digestible carbs.
It’s a powerful antioxidant & is reported to have anti-inflammatory benefits.
The active component is called phycocyanin. This antioxidant substance also gives spirulina its unique blue-green color.
Phycocyanin can fight free radicals and may inhibit the production of inflammatory signaling molecules.
Heart Healthy – it is said to lower “bad” LDL and triglycerides and keeps bad cholesterol from oxidizing. + It may reduce high blood pressure
Improves seasonal nasal allergy symptoms
Potentially helps to ward-off cancer
May help to control blood sugar levels
Sounds good to me. But remember, I’m not a doctor and can’t make any claims but it seems to help me feel better in general. And I notice a difference (not a good one) when I don’t use spirulina.
Talking to your doctor about any new supplement is always a good idea.
