How to Make the Perfect Daiquiri |  Recipe

How to Make the Perfect Daiquiri – a cocktail you definitely need to try again. Made properly, a daiquiri is pure heaven in its simplicity. The simple balance of rum, sugar, and lime.  This is a cocktail everyone should know how to make.

Forget what you think you know about a daiquiri – this is not your mass produced Ft. Lauderdale Spring Break frozen daiquiri. This is a cocktail perfect in its simplicity—just 3 ingredients, shaken until perfectly blended and ice cold, served straight up – no ice.

The History of the Daiquiri

The daiquiri is named after the mining town of Daiquiri on the southeastern tip of Cuba.

Apparently, around the time of the Spanish-American War, an American engineer, Jennings Cox, created the drink to protect his workers from yellow fever. It was thought that lime and alcohol would prevent deadly diseases.

How To Make The Perfect Daiquiri – Balance is the Key

To make the perfect Daiquiri you need a high-quality light rum, and equal parts freshly squeezed lime and simple syrup made with demerara sugar.

Once you have the basic recipe you can create any number of flavor variations.

So grab the rum and make a daiquiri.  It’s like sipping summer.

Vampiro Tequila Cocktail with Jalisco Sangrita

Vampiro Tequila Cocktail with Jalisco Sangrita. This spicy tequila cocktail mixed with a traditional Jalisco Sangrita. Sangrita’s are my new cocktail obsession. Sangrita or “little blood” has traditionally been served as a chaser for excellent quality tequila. It would have been a mixture of fruit juices and finely ground chili pepper. Many sangrita recipes call for tomato juice, but that would not have been part of the traditional recipe, the original recipe would have been made from leftover juice from fresh fruit salads and changed based on the fruits used.

Today’s cocktail culture is creating very intriguing sangritas as an ingredient in some pretty amazing tequila cocktails. This recipe calls for a combination of grapefruit, orange, and lime with a touch of spicy jalapeno pepper.

Famous New Orleans Morning Call Beignets

Famous New Orleans Morning Call Beignets are by far my favorite beignet in the New Orleans area. Served with café au lait beignets are quintessential New Orleans breakfast or late night treat, and makes an awesome brunch dessert.
