Guacamole is so simple to make. After you make this Homemade Guacamole Recipe you’ll wonder why you don’t make guacamole all the time! The key to awesome guacamole is ripe avocados plus salt, fresh ground pepper, and lime juice. The acidity of the lime juice balances the richness of the avocado.  You can add cilantro, chiles, onion, and/or tomato to make this your own special guacamole blend.  I add a little fire-roasted corn to mine.

The key to amazing Guacamole is the perfectly ripe avocado.  Learn how to pick the perfect Avocado.
If you can't find a ripe avocado, purchase the softest ones you can, and place them in a paper bag on the counter top with a kiwifruit or apple (or both) to speed up the avocado ripening process.  Don't ask, it just works!

  • 1 ripe Avocado - halved pitted and flesh scooped out
  • 2 t lime juice - freshly squeezed
  • 2 t onion - minced
  • 2 t cilantro - roughly chopped
  • 1/4 t jalapeño pepper
  • pinch of fine sea salt
  • 1 grind of a pepper mill


  • In a small bowl, mash the avocado with a fork (or potato masher) to make a slightly chunky, but not too chunky mixture, or if you make a lot of guac you might want a mortar and pestle.
  • Stir in lime juice, onion, jalapeño, and salt.
