Heirloom Tomato Basil and Fresh Mozzarella Salad
I love heirloom tomatoes and they are the star of this Heirloom Tomato Basil and Fresh Mozzarella Salad a twist on the traditional Caprese Salad.
Heirloom Basil and Fresh Tomato Salad
The rule of thumb ratio for a classic vinegarette is 1 part vinegar to 3 parts olive oil. With a Balsamic vinegarette, you may wish to make adjustments based on the flavor and quality of your vinegar and olive oil, so adjust to taste.
- 1 cup fresh small mozzarella balls
- 1 cup Heirloom cherry tomatoes cut in half
- 10 small fresh basil leaves chopped
- 1/4 cup extra-virgin olive oil
- 1 1/2 T aged balsamic vinegar best quality
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 4 cups romaine lettuce leave torn into bite size pieces
Drain the mozzarella balls
Place mozzarella and tomatoes in a bowl.
Add 1/4 cup and 1 1/2 T aged balsamic vinegar to a small container and whisk to thoroughly combine
Drizzle the vinegarette over the tomatoes and mozzarella balls, and season with a grind of sea salt and a couple of grinds of pepper.
Sprinkle with chopped basil leaves
Let sit @ room temperature for 10 - 15 minutes.
Place romaine lettuce leaves into a large bowl.
Toss with tomato mozzarella mixture.
Serve and enjoy!
