Grilled Farmer’s Market Hot Dog Recipe
Hot dogs may not be health food but adding some amazing fresh farmer’s market finds to your next hot dog roast will be a definite upgrade.
Locally grown greens, stone ground mustard, fresh herbs, and heirloom tomatoes top a healthier chicken hot dog.

Grilled Farmer’s Market Hot Dog Recipe
Grilled Farmer's Market Hot Dog
Ingredients
- 4 100% all beef hot dogs - or use chicken or turkey hot dogs
- 12 oz white wine - or water
- 2 heirloom tomatoes - thinly sliced
- 1/2 cup red onion - finely diced
- 4 farmer's market baguette
- 4 oz creamy blue cheese
- 1 T fresh basil - roughly chopped
- 1 cup quick pickled cabbage
- 1 green onion - chopped, including green tops
- 1 T stone ground mustard
- 4 slices peppered bacon - cooked, until crispy
Instructions
- Pre-heat a grill to 400° to 435° F.
- In a saucepan large enough to lay hot dogs flat, bring the wine or water to a gentle boil. Turn off heat. Once liquid has stopped boiling add the hot dogs and cover. Let sit simmering for 3-4 minutes.
- Place hot dogs on the 400° - 425° grill. Grill, turning frequently for even cooking, until well charred on the outside.
- When the hot dogs are just about done lower heat and quickly grill each bun and set aside.
- Add tomato slices to one side of the baguette and add red onion to the other side.
- Top with grilled hot dogs.
- Top with blue cheese, pickled cabbage, green onion, and basil. Drizzle with stoneground mustard.
