Strawberries are delicious on there own but marinating them in balsamic vinegar brings out their sweetness in a unique, earthy way.

Ok, I get it  – Balsamic and Strawberries?  Actually, the first time I had this dessert in Nappa – it was called “Strawberries macerated in Balsamic Vinegar” and it was served with brown sugar and sour cream.  I really wanted the chocolate cake, but friends convinced me to try this and I’m so glad they did.  I love this, and friends are always surprised to learn that the berries are marinated in balsamic.

Balsamic Strawberry Dessert

Easy Balsamic Marinated Strawberries

Ingredients

  • 1 pint strawberries fresh and ripe
  • 1/3 cup balsamic vinegar
  • 2 T brown sugar

Instructions

  1. Wash and top a pint of strawberries.
  2. Marinate them in balsamic vinegar and brown sugar in refrigerator 1 – 4 hours.
  3. Serve with whipped cream, over vanilla ice cream; or in the traditional style with sour cream.
