Easy Classic Campfire French Toast Recipe

This classic campfire french toast is always a family favorite. A couple of drops of vanilla with powdered sugar make these outstanding.

This is a family favorite and makes a great way to start your morning at the campground or at home.

  • 4 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup milk
  • 12 slices white bread or sweet bread
  • 1/2 t vanilla extract
  • 1 t butter
  • 1 cup maple syrup
  • powdered sugar


  • Break eggs into a wide, shallow bowl or pie plate; beat lightly with a fork. Stir in salt and milk.
  • Heat your frying pan over the coals, adding a dollop of butter or margarine.
  • Place the bread slices, one at a time, into the bowl or plate, letting slices soak up egg mixture for a few seconds, then turn to coat the other side.
  • Transfer bread slices to griddle or skillet, heating slowly until bottom is golden brown. Turn and brown the other side.
  • Sprinkle with powdered sugar.  And serve maple syrup on the side.


Soak/coat only as many slices as you will be cooking at one time, or else they will get too soggy.
Add your favorite fruit to add flavor with out calories.
