Easy Classic Campfire French Toast Recipe

This classic campfire french toast is always a family favorite. A couple of drops of vanilla with powdered sugar make these outstanding.

This is a family favorite and makes a great way to start your morning at the campground or at home.


  • 4 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup milk
  • 12 slices white bread or sweet bread
  • 1/2 t vanilla extract
  • 1 t butter
  • 1 cup maple syrup
  • powdered sugar


  1. Break eggs into a wide, shallow bowl or pie plate; beat lightly with a fork. Stir in salt and milk.
  2. Heat your frying pan over the coals, adding a dollop of butter or margarine.
  3. Place the bread slices, one at a time, into the bowl or plate, letting slices soak up egg mixture for a few seconds, then turn to coat the other side.
  4. Transfer bread slices to griddle or skillet, heating slowly until bottom is golden brown. Turn and brown the other side.
  5. Sprinkle with powdered sugar.  And serve maple syrup on the side.

Recipe Notes

Soak/coat only as many slices as you will be cooking at one time, or else they will get too soggy.

Add your favorite fruit to add flavor with out calories.
